Sleep bruxism, a disorder that causes you to gnash or clench your teeth during sleep, can result in damaged teeth, jaw disorders and headaches. However, self-diagnosing bruxism can be difficult – it’s hard to tell what you’re doing while you’re asleep. For this reason, we recommend watching for the following signs, which occur while you’re awake:

  • Headaches or dull pain in the temples
  • Soreness or locking in the jaw or jaw muscles
  • Chipped, fractured, loose, or otherwise damaged teeth
  • Grinding or clenching teeth
  • Noticeably heightened sensitivity or pain in your teeth
  • Scars or damage from chewing your cheeks
  • Sleep problems or interruptions
  • Face or neck soreness
  • Earache-like pain, but no actual earache

If you are experiencing any of these signs, you may have sleep bruxism. Please call our office at 916-683-1994 now to set up a sleep bruxism appointment at our Elk Grove, California, office with Dr. Warren Cheung.
